Nuevo Sendero Lights Orlando Purple in the Fight Against Domestic Violence

Orlando, FL — Nuevo Sendero, Inc., a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting survivors of domestic and sexual violence, proudly announces its 4th Annual “Orlando Turns Purple” Lighting Ceremony, taking place on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Orlando City Hall.

The event will bring together community leaders, public officials, and survivors to illuminate the city’s key landmarks and buildings in shades of purple — the international color symbolizing solidarity and a united front against domestic violence.

As part of the ceremony, informational resources will be shared, and a tribute will be held in honor of those who have lost their lives to violence.

This year’s keynote speaker will be Minou Tavárez Mirabal, daughter of Minerva Mirabal, one of the three sisters whose legacy inspired the United Nations to declare November 25 as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. Her powerful testimony continues a legacy of courage and advocacy for women’s rights.

“The Purple Lighting Ceremony is more than a symbolic act — it’s a reminder of our collective duty to protect those who have suffered from violence,” said Dr. Diana Mejía, Founder and CEO of Nuevo Sendero. “Each purple light represents hope, solidarity, and a commitment to breaking the cycle of abuse in Central Florida.”

For more than 18 years, Nuevo Sendero has been dedicated to restoring hope and supporting survivors through self-sufficiency programs, counseling, workshops, support groups, and educational conferences — helping individuals and families build safer, healthier lives.
